The ideas for Ingrid's textiles begin life in her sketchbooks. She is passionate about colour and draws inspiration from her surroundings on her travels. Her sketches are then worked into designs back at her studio at the Mushroom Works in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK and transferred to a canvas which is stretched over the required size frame for the textile.

Whether designed for the floor or the wall, all textiles use a gun tufting method of working, allowing speedy construction. Ingrid works on a 4m by 4m specially constructed wooden main frame which is bolted to her studio floor. The framed canvas on which she is working will be fitted inside this main frame. She is able to produce any size rug or wallcovering up to 4m square. She uses natural fibres wherever possible, with some synthetics for textural effect.

When finished, each textile is backed with hessian and finished with a neat strip at the border. The textile will then be sheared, if appropriate, to produce a smooth velvet like finish. Placed on a wooden floor or plain wall, the deliberately irregular edges and strong bold designs are shown off to fabulous effect.

Every rug or wallcovering in Ingrid's stock collection has a particular story to tell. 'Moroccan Mountain Village' grew out of Ingrid's stay in the village of Sefrou in the Middle Atlas Mountains, Morocco, on her first travels to the country, and the wall hanging ‘Mountain of Spices' came from exploring the spice souks of Marrakech.

Textiles available for sale from Ingrid's stock collection are priced and available at the site shop. Ingrid also works to commission. Full details can be found on the Commissions page.
